NAFD / SAIF / SAIF CARE
Jill, Peter and the staff here at Jill Glencross Independent Funeral Directors are proud to be the FIRST SAIF Member in Carlisle (The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors). We are also the only Funeral Directors in Carlisle to be SAIF and NAFD accredited.
SAIF
The organisation was established in 1989 and represents more than 870 privately-owned, independent funeral homes across the UK.
SAIF works hard to promote best practice and protect the interests of its members and their local communities. All prospective members have their premises inspected and everyone who joins must adhere to a strict Code of Practice.
We are also a member of SAIF Care and offer our families bereavement support free, from the minute we meet them to whenever they need it in the future. This is provided by trained staff over the telephone, via email or face to face. Part of our continued support after the funeral.

NAFD

For more than a hundred years the NAFD has been dedicated to maintaining the highest of standards throughout the funeral profession, to ensure bereaved families receive the advice and support they need and deserve.

The NAFD represents a broad spectrum of funeral directing businesses, from the very smallest independent family firm to the largest corporate businesses.
Whether you choose a large corporate group, an independent family-owned business or a Co-operative firm, you can rest assured that an NAFD member upholds the highest professional standards.
Every member funeral home is inspected every two years by our Standards and Quality Managers and they are required to abide by our Code of Practice.
Should there be any concerns about the services or standards provided by a member there is a complaints and reconciliation service for consumers, called the Funeral Arbitration Scheme – which is operated in conjunction with IDRS Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution.
The NAFD can also refer complaints for investigation by the NAFD Committee for Professional Standards and members can also be subject to sanctions made by the NAFD Disciplinary Committee, which is chaired by David Pittaway QC.
